It is the first professional championship win for Athaya Thitikul, a 17-year-old girl from Ratchaburi, after only her fourth event.
This talented teenager, rose to fame when she became the youngest golfer in the World to win a major tour event. She went on to win as an amateur two LET Tour events both held in Pattaya at Phoenix Gold.
She was also former No.1 amateur in the World, has represented her country several times, and has even played in the first Ladies tournament at Augusta.
Athaya Thitikul won the Sing-ST Thai LPGA Championship 2020 and a prize of 150,000 baht held at the Kabinburi Sports Club.
“I’m very happy to be able to win the championship by playing the 4th event in my professional life. Today’s game was good. I hit 17 greens, and each putt had a chance to win. Most of all is very good. ” said Thitikul.
She is currently due to play most of her golf on the Ladies European Tour for the time being, but once the LPGA tour school restarts, it is anticipated that she will join the US tour in 2022.
Meanwhile with her talent, expect to see her get a few sponsors invites to participate in some of the majors in Europe and in the States.
“Pro Pat” Donnapha Phutthipin, leader of the second round, finished two points behind, totaling 15 under and received 89,300 baht in prize money.
While Pawarisa Yokthuan and Busabakorn Sukaphan, tied in 3rd place and received 59,400 baht in prize money.
